It is a unique species in Japan, distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and surrounding islands, but not on Tsushima Island. The scientific name means' Mr. Schuyler's Frog ', which comes from Hermann, the director of the Royal Museum of Natural History in Leiden, Netherlands.
